The federal government has decided to expedite the transfer of development projects to provincial authorities, following the abolition of the Public Works Department (PWD) two months ago.
This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal. Attended by senior provincial officials, the meeting resolved to accelerate the handover of Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP)-funded projects to the provinces, according to a news release.
Iqbal clarified that while projects would be transferred to provincial governments, PSDP funding would remain intact. He instructed provinces to submit the names of ministries overseeing the projects within a week.
Ongoing PWD projects in Islamabad will be reassigned to the CDA and relevant ministries.
