CINEMAS: THE ROOM NEXT DOOR

Legendary Spanish director's Pedro Almadovar's first English-language feature sees Tilda Swinton's dying journalist trying to reconnect with an old friend played by Julianne Moore - it's a suitable Almadovar-esque showcase for a pair of modern screen icons, stylish as hell and served with a Joycean twist (Selected cinemas nationwide)

BOOK: SONNY BOY

From rough beginnings in the South Bronx to five decades as a Hollywood legend, Al Pacino has lived several lives, as recounted in this highly entertaining memoir, packed with choice anecdotes from the sets of The Godfather, Scarface, Scent Of A Woman and other Pacino classics, along with choice insights to his craft. You really might want to go with the audio book on this one (Penguin, Out now)

STREAMING: RIVALS

Based on Jilly Cooper's legendary 80s bonkbuster, this all star period romp - and we do mean romp - boasts a ridiculously overstuffed cast that includes David Tennant, Alex Hassell, Aidan Turner, Victoria Smurfit, Katherine Parkinson, Emily Atack and a scene-stealing Danny Dyer, all having an absolute blast. Binge immediately (Disney+, all episodes now streaming)

EVENT: BRAM STOKER FESTIVAL

Dublin gets gloriously gothic for the Bank Holiday weekend with the return of this spooktacular bash celebrating the Dublin-born author of Dracula, with fun for all the family and a packed programme that includes everything from Eternal Night, an immersive indoor art experience by artist Maser, to a staged reading of Stoker's work at this Abbey. This year, they've also uncovered a long-lost story by the great man himself - find out more below (Various venues, Dublin city, 25–28 October)
