Poetry Day Ireland is an annual island-wide celebration of poetry which invites the nation to read, write, and share a poem on the day.
Presented by Poetry Ireland, the theme for this year is "Good Sports" celebrating the good sport in all of us, the drive to give it a go or to have a crack at it.
Read Alan Titley's poem Cruinn Neamhdhíreach below.
Cruinn Neamhdhíreach
D'imigh an oíche lánghealaí faoi smúid.
Chaitheas an t-oráiste d’urlacan amach.
Fuaireas buille slaite de dheasca ciorcail chaim.
Bhí an bairille agam amscaí,
An roth a dheineas bacach,
An sliotar a bhuaileas rocach,
An taoschnó ad’itheas bhí scothóg sa pholl,
Is bhí an mirlín rófhada im phóca.
Ní raibh ceol ar bith sa sféar.
Ná casachtach sa tuirne lín,
An uimhir neamhní in Ifreann
Camóg tar éis an lánstaid
Claibínan bhuidéil ite le fiacla
An balún ar tí a phléasctha
Polláirenach raibh stuáilte
Bonn airgid gan mhant as
Druma nach ndéanfadh macalla
Cnaipe nach bhféadfaí a dhúnadh
Muince ar mhuineál mhoncaí
Ach bhíos iomlán cruinn is go hálainn neamhdhíreach ar mochasadh cam cromáin le speach ádhmhar nuair a bháigh mé an liathróid san eangach go glantseansúil le lúbchic chasta ealaíonta mar dheasa nóiméad deireanach sin den chluiche craoibhe nuair abhían uile dhuine ag brath orm.
Im shamhlaíocht laistigh.
