Here's a must-see for Batman fans Colin Farrell's legion of admirers.
Some of us - myself included - have membership of both clubs.
The next chapter in the latest iteration of The Batman saga begins. If only Bob Kane and Bill Finger could see what they started almost a century ago!
Colin Farrell stars as Oz Cobb (aka The Penguin), and the eight-episode DC Studios drama series continues the epic crime saga that director Matt Reeves began with The Batman.
That – in case you don’t know – was the 2022 reboot of the Caped Crusader, with Robert Pattinson in the legendary Bruce Wayne/Batman role.
This opening season concentrates on the titular gangster as he attempts to become the kingpin of Gotham City’s nefarious underworld.
His Three Daughters, Netflix
From writer-director Azazel Jacobs (French Exit, The Lovers) comes this bittersweet and funny story of an elderly patriarch and the three grown daughters who come to be with him in his final days.
The three female leads are all fantastic. Whoever got this lot together deserves an Oscar.
Katie (Carrie Coon) is a controlling Brooklyn mother dealing with a wayward teenage daughter.
Then there’s free-spirited Christina (Elizabeth Olsen), who is a different kind of mother, who is now separated from her offspring for the first time.
Then there’s Rachel (Natasha Lyonne) is a sports-betting stoner who has never left her father’s apartment - much to the chagrin of her stepsisters, who share a different mother and worldview.
Continuing his astute exploration of family dynamics in close-knit spaces, Jacobs follows the siblings over the course of three volatile days, as death looms, grievances erupt, and love seeps through the cracks of a fractured home.
Frasier, Paramount+
Back for a second run, this uninspired and largely generic reboot of one of the great sitcoms (a straight red card in my book) carries on where it left off.
So you can expect Kelsey Grammer's TV psychologist-turned-lecturer to be joined at his favourite Boston drinking hole by his son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott).
You can also expect his university dean Olivia (Toks Olagundoye), snobby intellectual colleague Alan (Nicholas Lyndhurst) and their waitress mate Eve (Jess Salgueiro) to join in the fun.
Though I see the great Peri Gilpin is making an appearance as Roz Doyle, Frasier's radio producer in the original series.
La Maison, Apple TV+
Over the course of 10 hour-long episodes, La Maison takes viewers behind the scenes of a fashion house run by a family dynasty besieged by power struggles and ego battles.
Thrust into scandal following the release of a video implicating its star designer, Vincent LeDu (played by Lambert Wilson), the house must quickly determine its next steps
In the eye of the storm, Perle Foster (Amira Casar) - LeDu’s former muse who has remained in his shadow for far too long - rallies around Paloma Castel (Zita Hanrot), a visionary young stylist, to take control of the institution that Maison LeDu represents to the Parisian fashion world.
Hounds of War, Sky Cinema Premiere & NOW
Frank Grillo, Robert Patrick and Rhona Mitra star in this action thriller, following the best military mercenaries money can buy.
Known as 'The Hounds', they take on the jobs that all others would class as impossible.
When they are betrayed by their creator in a carefully planned trap set up to destroy them, only one is left alive.
Gathering themselves back up, they undertake one last job – to avenge their fallen brothers.
Ending Today
Celebrity MasterChef, 9.00pm, BBC One
Twenty famous faces started the battle to become Celebrity MasterChef Champion 2024 and now only three remain.
The finalists must now cook and present two courses, a main and dessert, for judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace (above).
It's their last chance to prove they have what it takes by delivering on every front, including creativity, technique, taste and presentation.
Standards will no doubt be through the roof, leaving John and Gregg with their toughest decision yet.
Sport
It’s second against third as Derry City host Shamrock Rovers (KO 7.45pm) and Tony O'Donoghue presents coverage of the Premier Division match at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.
Rovers have endured a disappointing defence of the title they had won in each of the last four seasons, but they have performed well against Derry, winning two and drawing one of their three meetings in the current campaign.
For the Candystripes, there’s the rather pressing matter of keeping within touching distance of table-toppers Shelbourne. Something’s gotta give!
Also tonight: Rugbaí Beo (7.30pm, TG4) as Edinburgh host Leinster (KiO 7.35pm) in the United Rugby Championship first-round fixture at Hive Stadium.
