After a memorable turn in 2022 reboot movie The Batman, Colin Farrell's back as Batman villain Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin in a new series on Sky Atlantic. Here's all you need to know about the show.

Oz Cobb is taking on Gotham's underworld in the brand-new limited series, The Penguin, which begins this Friday night (Septemer 20) at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.

Based on DC Comics’ Batman, The Penguin is a spin-off from the 2022 movie The Batman, where Robert Pattinson played the iconic billionaire vigilante superhero who wants to bring justice to his city.

But every superhero needs a supervillain - and in Gotham City, there are more than enough criminal masterminds ready to keep him busy.

But Gotham being Gotham, there’s always room for one more rotten apple.

Among them is Oz, or The Penguin, who has aspirations of being the number one crime lord in the city.

After the death of Mario Falcone, he thinks he finally has his shot.

This eight-part limited series - set one week after the events of The Batman movie - explores the rise to power of Oswald 'Oz' Cobb aka Penguin in Gotham City's criminal underworld.

Colin Farrell reprises his role as The Penguin, in the wake of his memorable debut in The Batman.

Here are the key characters in the series, and the actors behind them . . .

Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell)

Oz Cobb earned his nickname The Penguin due to his portly stature, waddle, and pointed facial features.

An unrecognisable Colin Farrell as The Penguin

He’s a drug lord who hides his criminal activity behind his legitimate business, The Iceberg Lounge nightclub. While he has henchmen to do his bidding, he is unafraid to get his hands dirty himself if needs be.

Smart and calculated, Oz is a formidable force in the underworld.

Dubliner Colin Farrell is best known for his action and dramatic roles including In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths, Phone Booth and The Banshees of Inisherin.

Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti)

Sofia Falcone is the daughter of mob boss Carmine Falcone, who in the DC Comics had her own history of criminal activity.

She became known under the criminal alias The Hangman in later issues.

Cristin Milioti

In the trailer for the series, we see she has spent time in Arkham Asylum and has a violent streak, though claims she’s now 'cured’. However, she also seems to have eyes on taking over the Falcone crime family following her father’s death, which would put her at odds with Oz’s plans.

Cristin Milioti is best known for her roles in Palm Springs, Black Mirror: USS Callister, Fargo and How I Met Your Mother.

Victor Aguilar (Rhenzy Feliz)

Victor Aguilar is a Hispanic-American teenager, who is seen being taken under the wing of The Penguin in the trailer.

Curious and wanting to better himself, Oz is seen considering him someone to train up, using him as a driver while also bestowing him his view of the criminal life they lead.

Rhenzy Feliz is best known for his roles in Runaways, Casual, The Tender Bar, and as the voice of Camilo in Disney/Pixar’s Encanto.

Johnny Viti (Michael Kelly)

Johnny Viti was Carmine Falcone’s second-in-command in the crime family syndicate.

He is seen warning Oz about the gang war that is rising in Gotham.

Michael Kelly is best known for playing Doug Stamper in House of Cards. He also has roles in Man of Steel, Dawn of the Dead, Jack Ryan and Pantheon.

Francis Cobb (Deirdre O’Connell)

Francis Cobb, as depicted in the trailer, is believed to be the mother of Oz Cobb, who pushes him to aspire to greatness.

Deirdre O’Connell is an actress of stage, screen, and television. Her on-screen credits include Outer Range, The Affair, The Path and Law and Order.

Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown)

Salvatore Maroni is a former mob boss and leader of the Maroni Crime Family.

Once the biggest crime lord in Gotham, Salvatore fell from grace as part of the war against the rival crime family, The Falcones, as they rose to power.

Colin Farrell as The Penguin

During his reign, he spent a lot of time at Oz’s club, The Iceberg Lounge.

He was eventually jailed as part of a massive conspiracy orchestrated by Falcone with the help of corrupt cops and political heavyweights.

Clancy Brown is famed for a string of villainous and threatening roles, including Bad Boys, Highlander, The Shawshank Redemption and Dexter: New Blood.

Alberto Falcone (Michael Zegen)

Alberto Falcone is the son of Carmine Falcone, and brother to Sofia Falcone. Like the rest of his family, he is part of the crime family syndicate.

In the original source material, he has been eager to follow in his father’s footsteps since childhood and is extremely intelligent, studying at Harvard University and Oxford University.

He is portrayed by Michael Zegen, best known for his role of Joel in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. He has also starred in Frances Ha, Boardwalk Empire, The Walking Dead and Girls.

Nadia Maroni (Shohreh Aghdashloo)
