Bombing Brighton: The Plot to Kill Thatcher recalls the infamous IRA attack, Jean Smart is back in a new run of Hacks on TG4, it's Bread Week on Bake Off, while Andrew and Fergie: An Unusual Relationship looks at a very odd couple . . .

Pick of the Day

Bombing Brighton: The Plot to Kill Thatcher, 9.00pm, BBC Two

An exploration of one of the IRA's most significant attacks on mainland Britain during the Troubles, which killed five people and seriously injured 34 others.

Directly targeting British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (below), the bomb was planted three weeks before the Conservative Party conference, hidden beneath a bathtub in room 629 of Brighton's Grand Hotel.

This programme features new testimony from many of those affected and an interview Patrick Magee gave in 2022 about his role in the bombing

There’s also The Brighton Bomb on BBC Four at 10.15pm, where filmmaker and Northern Ireland expert Peter Taylor examines the IRA's devastating attack.

The events of the fateful day are pieced together, revealing how the terrorists carried out their plan and the quirk of fate that allowed then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to escape unscathed.

New or Returning Shows

Hacks, 10.30pm, TG4

The eternally excellent Jean Smart (below) returns for a second season as Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas stand-up comedian struggling to remain relevant.

Well, that was until she ended up working with Ava Daniels, a down-on-her-luck comedy writer played by Hannah Einbinder.

They have a fiery relationship and, as the series resumes, Deborah eagerly anticipates trying out her new material on the road as Ava dreads the potential fallout of her explosive email.

Meanwhile, Deborah and Ava's manager Jimmy attempts to put out fires.

Andrew and Fergie: An Unusual Relationship, 9.00pm, Virgin Media One

It’s always mystified me why so many people are interested in royalty and that, but here we go. Again.

This documentary is focused on the life of Britain’s King Charles III's 'troubled’ younger brother, who has publicly fallen from grace.

His former wife is the outspoken - and clearly bonkers - Duchess Sarah Ferguson, who apparently can't avoid trouble in the eyes of the media.

Together they make up the most controversial duo in the British royal family.

That's them above on their wedding day.

Don’t Miss

The Great British Bake Off, 8.00pm, Channel 4

In Bread Week, the bakers are challenged to make savoury buns and bread horns filled with delectable delights.

And in the Technical challenge, the bakers must follow along as judge Paul Hollywood (below, with fellow judge Prue Leith) demonstrates a recipe before them.

Little Richard: I Am Everything, 1.25am, Channel 4

Shocking time for this pretty much definitive documentary exploring the life of the one-of-a-kind rock 'n' roll icon who shaped the world of music.

Contributors include John Waters, Mick Jagger and Tom Jones.

Record it and enjoy at your leisure. Little Richard deserves your attention.

Opry an Iúir, 9.30pm, TG4

If you enjoyed last Friday's Late Late Show Country Special, this is right up your street.

Daniel O'Donnell (above) once again hosts at the INEC at the Gleneagle in Killarney, and this episode is full of stars celebrating Country n Irish.

Declan Nerney takes to the stage with a performance of I'm Just Lucky I Guess, Olivia Douglas wows the crowd with a rendition of England's Motorway and Patrick Feeney performs The Last Shanty.

New to Stream

Ali Wong: Single Lady, Netflix

After a whirlwind couple of years, Ali Wong returns to the stage to dish on the highs, lows and surprises of dating post-divorce.

Dinner Time Live With David Chang, Netflix

Season 2 of the recorded live foodie show.

Chef David Chang says: "99% of all cooking on television and social media is a lie," and he’s ready to show the world how it’s really done and he’s doing it all live.

He personally cooks for his celebrity friends in his kitchen in downtown Los Angeles, so it’s a VIP experience where the meal, the mishaps, and the conversation all unfold in real time.

No food swap-outs, no food stylists, just real how-to culinary secrets and recipes from a world-renowned chef who’s cooking right here, right now.

Reminds me of the intro to The Larry Sanders Show: 'Live, on tape, from Hollywood.'

Killer Cakes, Prime Video

Just in time for Halloween, this.

Host Matthew Lillard welcomes four teams of killer cake artists to an abandoned warehouse, where they will compete for $20,000 and the Golden Knife trophy.

They will work with some of the best horror special effects artists in Hollywood to bring their cakes to life and scare the hell out of the show’s expert judges.

They are Scream Queen Danielle Harris and food artist and Halloween aficionado Nikk Alcaraz.

Ending Today

Twisted Twins, 9.00pm, UTV

This short series comes to an end with a bizarre story from across the Atlantic.

So maybe not that bizarre, really.

Police officers in Atlanta, USA investigate the brutal murder of a Nikki Whitehead in her own home in January 2010 only to find their investigation leads them to her identical twin daughters Jasmiyah and Tasmiyah Whitehead.
