Pierce Brosnan is to star as a "reclusive, retired spy" in a new romantic thriller called In the Wind.

US entertainment trade publication Deadline reports that Brosnan's character in the film "is brought out of hiding by his enigmatic new neighbour, digging up both of their secrets in the process".

The film marks the feature debut of writer-director Simon Barry, the creator and showrunner of Netflix's Warrior Nun. The film is based on a story by his father, Derek Barry.

"As a longtime Pierce Brosnan fan, I'm extremely grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside someone I admire for their craft, character and humanity," said Simon Barry.

Former 007 Brosnan is currently filming Giant, a biopic of former world featherweight champion 'Prince' Naseem Hamed in which he plays Dublin-born boxing trainer Brendan Ingle.
