Irish TV host Laura Whitmore will make her return to the Irish stage alongside EastEnders actor Shona McGarty and The Tudors star Colin O'Donoghue when West End hit 2:22: A Ghost Story comes to Dublin this June.

After making her theatre debut in the London production as Jenny, Bray native Whitmore will step into the role of Lauren at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre from 20 to 11 August.

McGarty will play Jenny, Jay McGuiness of boy band The Wanted will play Ben, and O'Donoghue (Once Upon A Time, The Right Stuff, The Gray House) will play Sam.

2:22 - A Ghost Story began in summer 2021 at London’s Noël Coward Theatre and starred Lily Allen, Julia Chan, Hadley Fraser and Jake Wood, and went on to win the WhatsOnStage award for Best Play.

The synopsis of the play says, "Jenny believes her new home is haunted, but her husband Sam isn’t having any of it.

"They argue with their first dinner guests, old friend Lauren and new partner Ben. Can the dead really walk again?

Shona McGarty

"Belief and scepticism clash, but something feels strange and frightening, and that something is getting closer, so they’re going to stay up... until 2:22... and then they’ll know."

Whitmore trained at the Leinster School of Music and Drama, studied Shakespeare at RADA and holds a degree in Journalism from Dublin City University.

She wrote and starred in the short film Sadhbh for which she won The Ros Hubbard award for acting in 2019. She toured in the role of Cleo in Peter James’ Not Dead Enough in 2017.

Her film/TV acting credits include Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral, 4.3.2.1, Storage 24 and RTE’s Finding Joy. In 2024 she can be seen in Channel 4’s and Disney’s drama series Queenie as well as her first lead in a feature film A Mother For An Hour out later this year.
