Singer songwriter Ryan McMullan has unveiled the new live video for his song, Us, ahead of the release of his debut album, Redesign. We asked him the BIG questions . . .
Speaking about the song, Ryan says, "Us was written straight after a phone call with one friend, regarding another friend who had stung me, but instead of confronting them about it, I wrote a song. I doubt they will ever realise it was about them though!"
Ryan toured Australia last May and also played Glastonbury and Latitude in the UK, and Electric Picnic.
He plays: 31 October: Strand Bar, Strandhill, Sligo. 3 November: Workman's Club, Dublin. 4 November: Empire Music Hall, Belfast. 5 November: SWG3 Poetry Club, Glasgow. 7 November: The Waiting Room, London.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I’m terrified of spiders, I drive an hour and back to get my haircut because I’m afraid of change, I haven’t stopped singing Christmas songs throughout this entire year.
How would you describe your music?
A bag of dolly mixtures. Mostly sweet with the odd liquorice thrown in.
Who are your musical inspirations?
A little bit of everything really. I’ve always wanted to sing like Aretha, dance like Jagger, shred like prince and write like McCartney.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Joe Dolan once played in our local GAA club, but I was five and never appreciated what was happening I’d pay good money to relive it now though.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Red Hot Chilli Peppers greatest hits!
What’s your favourite song right now?
Lizzy McAlpine - Pushing It Down And Praying.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"All you need is love. Love is all you need" - The Beatles.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Well, this would be a form of torture and I’m not willing to ruin any songs that I enjoy, so probably Baby Shark. Or Sweet Caroline.
Where can people find your music/more information?
There are lots of different places which can get confusing, so I recommend to just Google my name plus what it is you’re looking for, such as tickets, new music etc etc My website is here.
