Colin Farrell joined by Oscar-winning co-star for new film

It has been announced that Tilda Swinton will star opposite Colin Farrell in Netflix's The Ballad of a Small Player, the new film from Edward Berger, the director of the Oscar-winning All Quiet on the Western Front.

US entertainment trade publication Deadline says filming is due to begin in Asia this summer. Michael Clayton Oscar winner Swinton was also part of the cast of one of Farrell's earliest films - 1999's The War Zone.

The Ballad of a Small Player is based on the Lawrence Osborne book of the same name.

Deadline says the film tells the story of "a high-stakes gambler who decides to lay low in Macau after his past and debts catch up with him".

Edward Berger is the director of the Oscar-winning All Quiet on the Western Front

He meets "a kindred spirit who might just hold the key to his salvation".

Farrell is currently filming A Big Bold Beautiful Journey with co-star Margot Robbie.

He stars in the title role in the new Apple TV+ detective series Sugar, streaming now.
