Tell us three things about yourself...

The band was born because our vocalist Dessa recently moved from Brazil, found herself at our guitarist Steve's workplace (a music shop) to buy gear to busk on Grafton Street. They met, instantly connected and started writing music together.

The name Green Gurl is supposed to sound like "gringo", celebrating the band’s Brazilian Irish mixture.

Dessa (vocals) speaks three languages, Colm (drums) and Sammy (bass) are long term friends, and Steven (guitar) is also a music producer.

How would you describe your music?

Steven Kennedy (guitarist): Oddly phrased riffs and cathartic choruses, with a late 90s pop rock sound.

Who are your musical inspirations?

We are inspired by Paramore, Nirvana, Alanis Morissette and Incubus.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Colm Geraghty, drummer: A small gig in Tramline in town with small local acts. It made me decide that music was what I wanted to do with my life."

What was the first record you ever bought?

Sammy Barsoum, bassist: Supermodel by Foster The People.

What’s your favourite song right now?

We cannot stop listening to the new EP from Cabl - See You in a Year and a Half.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Dessa Vanuci, frontwoman: "Got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul, and so it goes." Guaranteed by Eddie Vedder. To be honest, every line of this song cuts deep."

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Steven Kennedy, guitarist: Canned Heat by Jamiroquai because I could never be in a bad mood.

Where can people find your music/more information?

Alan Corr
