Pick of the Day

Bridgerton, Netflix

From Shondaland and new showrunner, Jess Brownell, Bridgerton is back for its third season of period drama shenanigans.

Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season.

But she has decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.

But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.

Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger.

But he’s disheartened to realise that Penelope - the one person who always appreciated him as he was - is giving him the cold shoulder.

Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband.

But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly.

Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence locally makes it more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.

MasterChef, 9.00pm, BBC One

As the competition edges closer to completion, the semi-finalists need to impress John Torode and Gregg Wallace (below) with a dish that really turns on the theatrics.

It must sing creativity, magic and sparkle, leaving the judges with a real problem on their hands.

For one, the show ends here, but the remaining five are then whisked off to Buckinghamshire, home to an ancient forest which provides the stunning backdrop for Nomadic - a wilderness dining experience.

Swedish Michelin-starred chef Niklas Ekstedt sets them the task of rustling up a five-course menu for a conservationists’ dinner hosted by bushcraft expert Ray Mears.

This week’s episode sees Dee Coleman and builder Pete Finn (below) help the Dalton family in the west Dublin suburb of Lucan reclaim their cluttered semi-detached home.

Dad Peter lost an arm in an industrial accident and mam Jane has problems with her knee, so the current clutter only exacerbates their daily struggles.

Added to that, they all play instruments, but most of these are consigned to the attic.

Can Dee and Pete clear things out and rearrange the Daltons' lives?

This year’s event is complicated as a famous diva has joined the group, and her history with the others threatens the performance.

The Fortune Hotel, 9.00pm, Virgin Media One

Stephen Mangan (below) hosts as this new reality entertainment event set in a Caribbean resort filled with glamour, opulence and deception reaches the midway point.
