Actor and comedian PJ Gallagher has spoken about his love of the hit comedy series The Young Offenders, saying he would love if another season is commissioned.

Gallagher has been involved in the Cork-based comedy since director Peter Foott's acclaimed 2016 film introduced audiences to the lovable rogues Conor (Alex Murphy) and Jock (Chris Walley).

The cast of the hit feature film, which also includes Hilary Rose, Dominic MacHale and Shane Casey, went on to reprise their roles for the small screen, while Gallagher took on the role of the curmudgeonly Principal Barry Walsh.

With the fourth outing of The Young Offenders TV series currently airing on BBC One, Gallagher has said he would welcome another season with open arms.

"I don't know if it'll happen or not because it depends how many people watch it and all of that. But I just love it."

He continued: "It's nine years of my life now, that's been a part of my life, since we made the movie. I know these people for nine years, you become close.

"We kind of feel like we watched the lads grow up. You feel like you're such a part of everyone’s life on that show. Fingers crossed the BBC brings it back.

"I don’t know if we’ll get another nine [years], but if we get 10 [years] that would be amazing."

Season four of The Young Offenders is currently airing on BBC One.
