Dublin indie rock five-piece Basht will headline O'Hara’s Big Top on Saturday, 8 June at the Carlow Arts Festival. We asked Jack Leavey of the band the BIG questions . . .

The 45th annual Carlow Arts Festival 2024 takes place between 5 and 9 of June in Carlow Town, with over 80 curated events including dance, literature, circus, spectacle, music, theatre, cinema, and visual arts.

The O’Hara’s Big Top, located in the grounds of Carlow College, is the main venue for live music throughout the festival week and features a free concert showcasing FĒNIX, the solo music project of Carlow native Darragh O'Connor, Just Alice, and emerging folk and country performer Kendal Moody.

A Music Pass is available granting access to all music events with a day pass priced at €15 and a weekend pass priced at €35. See www.carlowartsfestival.ie

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

We are a five-piece rock band from Dublin, we recently released our debut EP Dirty White Lies and we’ve just come back from our first headline tour around the UK and Ireland.

How would you describe your music?

Our music sits somewhere between classic rock and modern alternative rock.

Who are your musical inspirations?

We have a broad taste in music as a band but for me personally some of my inspirations would be Lou Reed, Paul Banks, early Kings of Leon, Ian Curtis, Anton Newcombe.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

The Coronas in the Olympia with my mum when I was aged about 10.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Aha Shake Heartbreak by Kings of Leon on CD

What’s your favourite song right now?

When Everything was Lost, from the new Palace album.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"Nobody knows you when you’re down and out" - Eric Clapton

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Empire Ants - Gorillaz.
