Tramore soul, pop and funk musician artist Toucan aka Conor Clancy has released his new EP, Don't Understand Why. We asked him the BIG questions . . .

Speaking about the new EP, he says, "I've been writing in a few different styles over the last few years, and I wanted this release to feel cohesive, so I chose these songs because they all give me that feeling of a slow, sunny, Sunday morning.

"In a lot of the Toucan music, there's a feel-good factor that I think has become an important part of the sound, and these songs all have that feeling for me.’

He has already released two EPs and played Electric Picnic, Other Voices, Knockanstockan, The Cork Jazz Festival, Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul, Love Supreme, and Meltdown Festival curated by Nile Rodgers.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

My name is Conor, I write Soul songs and I like to swim!

How would you describe your music?

I'd describe it mostly as feel-good Soul music.

Who are your musical inspirations?

It really does vary, like I love all those classic soul and Motown artists like Curtis Mayfield, The Emotions, and newer Soul artists like Olivia Dean and Tom Misch. Lately I've been listening to a lot of Fleet Foxes, Adrienne Lenker, and Khruangbin.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

I've thought long and hard but I actually have no idea hahaha. One of the first gigs I went to though was James Vincent McMorrow at the Galway Arts Festival, I think that was Summer of 2012?

What was the first record you ever bought?

The first record I bought is still such a classic - Stadium Arcadium by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Favourite song at the moment is Are You Looking Up by Mk.gee.

Favourite lyric of all time?

It's hard to pick an all-timer, but my favourite lyric at the moment is from Adrienne Lenker's song, Anything: "Weren't we the stars in heaven? Weren't we the salt in the sea? Dragon in the new warm mountain, Didn't you believe in me?"

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Thursday Afternoon by Brian Eno - I think this has been my most streamed piece of music for the last two years

Where can people find your music/more information?

Out of all the socials, I'm most active on Instagram - @toucanofficial_ or you can check out the website.
