Pick of the Day

It's back!

In this new fourth season, the nation’s biggest animal charity is busier than ever dealing with animal emergencies from all over Dublin city and county.

In the first episode, new recruit to the team is freshly qualified Vet Ruth Ferrie (below), who hits the ground running looking after Lazlo, a tiny Retriever puppy who needs lifesaving surgery.

The cattery team are baffled by a one year old cat who can’t stop trembling but Vet Lauren has a diagnosis. Appropriately named Señor Wiggles, the wobbly feline gets a special home.

Back in the dog section, Lynda and Mikey are looking after a badly matted pup called Pipsqueak who needs an urgent grooming.

New or Returning Shows

Pet Shop Boys at the BBC, 9.00pm, BBC Four

To open a Pet Shop Boys night, here's a selection of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe's many appearances on the BBC, from the early days of just two men and a synth right up to the fun and flamboyance of their modern live shows.

The programme also features collaborations with Liza Minnelli (Losing My Mind), Dusty Springfield (What Have I Done to Deserve This?) and David Bowie (Hallo Spaceboy).

Followed at 10.30pm by imagine . . . Pet Shop Boys: Then and Now, the documentary first broadcast last Tuesday.

Then at midnight there’s Pet Shop Boys: Live in Hyde Park, the duo's headline set at the Radio 2 festival in 2019, featuring performances of Always On My Mind, It's a Sin, Suburbia, Left to My Own Devices and West End Girls, Go West and Domino Dancing.

After her sister's announcement Nina decides to give Ranesh a chance, but is concerned about the way Evie acts around him.

Episode two follows at 11.05pm. Ranesh's pretentious art critic father Sachin is due to visit Glasgow for the night and has no idea about his son's engagement.

Fearful of his judgment and knowing how important this is to Evie, the family decide to be on their best behaviour and pretend to be a more demure version of themselves.

Don’t Miss

Simon Harris might want to tune in here so he can learn a bit about the northern part of Ireland.

Collectively, all concerned poke fun at the week's headlines. And Paul Merton’s team wins.

New to Stream

Blackberry, Sky Cinema & NOW

Jay Baruchel, Glenn Howerton, Rich Sommer, Michael Ironside, Martin Donovan star in director Matt Johnson’s comedy-drama.

It tells the 'true story’ of the meteoric rise and catastrophic demise of the world’s first smartphone, offering what’s promised to be a whirlwind ride through the ruthlessly competitive Silicon Valley at breakneck speeds.

Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver, Netflix

This film continues the epic saga of Kora and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave people of Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, a newfound homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld.

As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge, and legends are made.

Asphalt City, Prime Video

Cross soon discovers firsthand the chaos and awe of a job that careens from harrowing to heartfelt, testing his relationship with Rutkovsky and the ethical ambiguity that can be the difference between life and death.

Sport

It’s Derry City v Shamrock Rovers (KO 7.45pm) and Peter Collins presents all the action from the Premier Division match at Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

These teams were the top two last term, with Rovers winning their fourth successive title, and both sides will expect to be very much in contention once again despite relatively inconsistent starts to the current campaign.

This is a classic six-pointer, especially as Rovers travel to Tolka Park next Monday to face leaders Shelbourne and Derry host Saint Pat’s.

Rugbaí Beo, 7.30pm, TG4

It’s Ulster v Cardiff (KO 7.35pm) in the United Rugby Championship match at Kingspan Stadium.

Ulster go into this match placed in the eighth quarter-final spot and, with just five matches remaining, they will be keen to solidify their play-off position.

Cardiff have won just three matches all season and while a top-eight spot looks beyond them, they will be determined to produce some morale-boosting displays between now and the end of the campaign.
