The band evolved from singer Sarah Toner's solo work after she returned to Northern Ireland after a successful musical theatre career in London and began to develop her own songwriting with the help of her producer/manager Declan Legge (Jealous of the Birds, Atlantic Records).
Joined by producer/drummer Darragh Tibbs, Matt Holland (keys/guitar) and David Dalzell (bass), they began working on new material.
Speaking about No Help From You, Sarah says, "It’s about the letting go and moving on from someone. It’s the celebration of self-validation and taking back control.
"It’s a middle finger up at anyone that’s ever hurt you. The song is about the end of grieving a failed relationship, about the moment where you see your growth and worth on your own… you never needed them anyway!"
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I don’t trust escalators. At all. They freak me out. When I was forced to do Alter Girl service in primary school I used to eat handfuls of Holy communion in the wee room behind the Alter when no one was looking and I would do it again. I struggle to write music when I’m happy. I have to be in the pits of despair to comfortably put pen to paper. So, in other words. I’m writing a lot.
How would you describe your music?
Indie alt rock with influence from pop and funk.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Lyrically, we’re massively influenced by the likes of Martha Wainwright and Leonard Cohen with musical and production influence coming from Björk, Talking Heads and Mitski.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Sarah: My first gig was Taylor Swift, I must’ve been about 14, Darragh went to see The Wanted when he was 10, Matt doesn’t remember his childhood and Dave wins this one really. His first gig was The Police.
What was the first record you ever bought?
3OH!3 - WANT. First album ever bought with my own money. I’d listen to DONTTRUSTME over and over. What a banger to be honest.
What’s your favourite song right now?
The whole band is loving Chappell Roan right now. She’s a genius. I’m gonna go for her song Casual.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Mary by Big Thief is one of the most stunning songs ever. Some of my fav lyrics are "Mom and Dad, and violins, Sung the country silence, The needle stopped the kicking, The clothes spins on the floor, And my heart is playing hide and seek, Waiting, count to four, Will you love me like you loved me, And I'll never ask for more?"
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Baby Cakes by 3 of A Kind.
Where can people find your music/more information?
