Behind the music - Rory Gillanders

admin admin | 06-11 16:15

Dublin singer songwriter Rory Gillanders has released his new single, Soulless World. We asked him the BIG questions . . .

The song was born out of the pandemic and features Dublin-based vocalist Sara Jane and Brazilian vocalist Deyse Menzes.

Speaking about the video for the new track, Rory says, "I wanted to portray a vision of a soulless, dystopian world, a visual representation of what I was feeling when I wrote the track."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I only picked up the guitar and started writing songs properly when I was out of work with a back injury. I lived in London for five and a half years. I'm a coffee addict, ha!

How would you describe your music?

Alt-rock with honest, heartfelt lyrics and catchy hooks.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I love so many different kinds of music but would say the main musicians that influenced me would be Dylan, Springsteen and Ryan Adams! Especially their stripped back acoustic stuff, with harmonica and vocals.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Oasis at the Point Theatre in Dublin.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits.

What's your favourite song right now?

Look The Other Way by Justin Townes Earle.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Tough question but I'll go for ''They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor", from Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

And The Healing Has Begun by Van Morrison.

Where can people find your music/more information?

Spotify, YouTube and on my website.

Alan Corr
