Former Coronation Street actress Hayley Tamaddon has been told she has arthritis at the age of 47 following "horrendous" neck pain.

She is also known for being on the soap Emmerdale and as a winner of ITV celebrity skating show Dancing On Ice.

Tamaddon welcomed her son Jasper in 2019 with partner Adrian, who she later split from.

In an Instagram story, she wrote that she "woke up" and believed her "head was going to explode".

She wrote: "Puked up twice. Took jasper to nursery. Got ready for a photo shoot.

"Got there and realised I really should see a doctor. Ended up in hospital. On a drop for medication. It didn’t work.

"Head and neck pain still horrendous. Had a scan. Got told I have arthritis. Came home.

"Picked jasper up. Made tea. Put him to bed. Took some tablets. Had a cry.

"Going back to the hospital tomorrow. Life of a single working mum."

According to the NHS, arthritis causes join pain and inflammation. Osteoarthritis usually develops from the mid-40s and over and causes loss of cartilage in severe cases, while rheumatoid arthritis can hit people from the age of 30 and is associated with the immune system.

The actress played Del Dingle in Emmerdale from 2005 until 2007 and Andrea Beckett in Coronation Street from 2013 until 2015.

Tamaddon won Dancing On Ice in 2010 with professional skater Daniel Whiston.
