Featuring musicians from the jazz, funk and rockabilly scenes, Pointbreak have played Dublin venues Whelan's, The Grand Social, The Button Factory as headliners or supporting international acts.

The new album was influenced by the likes of Lalo Schifrin, The Cramps, CAN, Calibro 35, and Link Wray, whose classic track Jack the Ripper receives a sax-infused interpretation.

They currently hold a residency in The Foggy Dew in Dublin City.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

The band was formed almost ten years ago. We named the band after the best film ever made. Up until 2021, we used to wear US president's masks on our shows. It started as a one-time gimmick, it lasted for six years! Thankfully we only wear matching blazers these days.

How would you describe your music?

Mark: Music for a film that doesn't exist. A really, really cheap film.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Stefano: We all have different influences within the band, of course, but what really shaped our sound were artists like Link Wray, The Ventures, Calibro 35, Messer Chups and showbands like Los Straitjackets.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Simon: A gig for Bosnian refugees in Cherry Orchard in Dublin when I was about five.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Stefano: The Blues Brother Original Soundtrack. I was 13.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Simon: New Clare Revival - Stockton’s Wing.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Mark: Lyrics are terrible. Singing is overrated. Instrumentals are the future.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Mark: Tommy Coen’s The Beauty Spot by Paahto Cummins.

Where can people find your music/more information?

Bandcamp, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram . . . and, of course, all major DSPs.
