X Factor star and proud Ballyfermot woman Mary Byrne brings her show, Mary Byrne - Check Me Out, to the Everyman, Cork this Friday and Saturday, 5 and 6 of July. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

Mary, who has been singing in local pubs and clubs, auditioned for the seventh series of The X Factor UK in 2010 and her heartfelt rendition of I (Who Have Nothing) by Ben E. King captured the attention of the judges and the audience

She released her debut album Mine & Yours in 2011, followed by With Love (2012) and Magic of the Musicals (2014).

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I’m kind, I wear my heart on my sleeve and I’m loyal.

How would you describe your music?

All my song have to have huge meaning to ME. I have to have lived it or felt it so I can be authentic in my delivery of the song.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra and of course Elvis for his love songs.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Shirley Bassey in the RDS.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Sugar Baby Love by The Rubettes.

What’s your favourite song right now?

This Is The Moment from the musical Jekyl and Hyde due to having just learnt it to sing at the remembrance for those lost in the Stardust fire and their families. The meaning and what it represented just pulled at every heartstring.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"If I can dream of a better land, Where all my brothers walk hand in hand, Tell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come true, Oh why?" - If I Can Dream by Elvis Presley.
