Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I sing and I play guitar, I am in a band like no other.

How would you describe your music?

Like ten+ genres hitting you in the face all at once. I would describe it as conscious music. At shows it’s a seriously immersive experience, people have cried and rejoiced whilst others have come out bruised and bleeding. It depends where you stand and where your head is at.

Who are your musical inspirations?

In terms of known artists, legends like Swans, Death Grips, Kendrick Lamar, Herbie Hancock and Radiohead come to mind. But it’s safe to say we all inspire each other musically, through years of playing with each other we’ve formed an ancient type of telekinesis where we enter a progressive flow state that often transforms into something unexpected.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

When I was five, I went to WOMAD festival with my fam, I don’t remember much except from getting lost and a shop selling crystals.

What was the first record you ever bought?

I think it was Led Zeppelin 4 or Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

What’s your favourite song right now?

There’s a few I could quote off the same album, so I may as well give you that it’s called From a Vein by Shades, Alix Perez and Eprom.

Favourite lyric of all time?

‘They got money for wars but can’t feed the poor’ - Tupac Shakur.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I think if I only ever heard one song again then that would most likely spoil its magic, maybe send me a bit mad to be honest. In that case I may as well already choose a song that is that way inclined so I choose Lunacy by Swans.

Where can people find your music/more information?

Type Maruja into Google, nice website there. Check out our tour we’ll most likely be near you as it’s big. Socials are poppin’ too. @marujaofficial.
