"But it’s definitely fun to still play the character of Margo as a teenager and to bring out an even more youthful side of me. I did try to think of the time when I was younger doing the first movie."

She added, "I would say I am like Margo. I don’t have any siblings and a big thing about Margo is that she very protective of her younger sisters so that’s a little different.

"Margo is confident and she’s not afraid to stand up for herself so I feel like I relate to her in that way. I also love her outfits!"

Despicable Me 4 finds Gru happily settled in suburbia with his family but they are forced to go into a hiding when Gru’s former schooldays rival Maxime Le Mal escapes from jail with revenge on his wicked mind.

Living under assumed names, they move to the small town of Mayflower where Gru finds that the little girl living next door is not all she seems.

This is Poppy Prescott, who’s played by Joey King, and she is a lisping small town wannabe villain who threatens to expose Gru and his family if he doesn’t teach her his (formerly) wicked ways. And in a movie of accents, she’s got one of the best.

"I was lucky enough to try out some things and suggest some things when we were making the movie, which was very nice," says Joey. "Our directors were very supportive of letting us play around with ideas in the recording booth.

"They were happy for me to use my normal voice but I thought it needed something more. We tried about three or four different voices but this one was one that made us laugh the most. I felt like I had a lot of creative freedom on this movie."

Forget about those bungling Minions, when will Poppy get her own spin-off movie?

"Ha, you tell me! That sounds so fun! She could do it with her little cat!"

Wonderfully named director, voice actor, and animator Pierre Coffin also impresses once again voicing the hyperactive Minions.

But just how does he do it?

"You’re asking the wrong gal," says Polly. "I’m just amazed as you are. I actually think about this, that question you just asked, this is something I think about often and I need to ask him."

Despicable Me 4 is in cinemas on 12 July
