Emmy-nominated actor, Andrew Scott, has landed his next leading man role in a war thriller set during the Battle of Normandy.
Following his lauded turn in Andrew Haigh's drama All of Us Strangers, the Dublin star is set to play Group Captain James Stagg, the Allies' Chief Meteorologist whose job it was to inform Supreme Commander General Eisenhower of weather conditions that would make-or-break their D-Day invasion.
The official synopsis of Pressure reads: "In the seventy-two hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element—the British weather. Britain's chief meteorological officer James Stagg (Andrew Scott) is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership.
"The wrong conditions could devastate the largest ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on. With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower. With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance."
Directed by Anthony Maras (Hotel Mumbai), with a screenplay co-written by Olivier Award-winner David Haig and Maras, and based on Haig's acclaimed play, Pressure is expected to start shooting in the UK this September.
Scott recently received an Emmy nomination for his leading role in the acclaimed Netflix miniseries Ripley.
As a producer on Ripley, Scott has also received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
The moodily shot black-and-white series was created, written and directed by Steven Zaillian and was based on Patricia Highsmith's 1955 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Scott starred as Tom Ripley, Dakota Fanning played Marge Sherwood and Johnny Flynn portrayed Dickie Greenleaf.
