Behind the music - Lavine

admin admin | 07-21 16:15

Northern Irish singer-songwriter Lavine has released her new single, Stay. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

Previously performed as part of Sound of Belfast in Crescent Arts and Women's Work, her debut EP Edge of the World was released in 2021, and most recently she was involved in @ellasthelabel's female focused mixtape release in 2023.

Speaking about her new song, she says, "I feel like Stay is a song that we all can connect with. Love is something we feel so strongly but don’t always show the people who mean the most to us. It’s a song about what true love actually means."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

Introverted creative. Loves nature. Would love to one day write a musical.

How would you describe your music?

Like a big hug from an old friend. I love music that can make you feel and process emotions. I’m constantly striving to write therapeutic songs.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I grew up listening to an eclectic mix of Crowded house, Joni Mitchell, The Beach Boys, The Corrs, Foo Fighters and Kylie Minogue to name a few and I feel like they have all influenced who I am as a writer and musician.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Boyzone in the 90s. I remember the excitement of the crowd and everyone singing together.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Michael Jackson’s Bad, which makes me sound cooler than I am (nah - Ed).

What’s your favourite song right now?

Like most people I am becoming obsessed with Chappell Roan and her track After Midnight is on repeat, it’s such a bop!

Favourite lyric of all time?

"And there is a song for you, ink on a pin, underneath the skin, an empty space to fill in" - Joni Mitchell from the album and song Blue.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It has to be Watermark by Enya. I think it’s the most beautiful piece of art I have ever heard. I could write a dissertation on how much I love it to be honest.

Where can people find your music/more information?

My music is available on all streaming platforms and I’m probably most active on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube @lavinemusicni.
