The Devlins have released their new single, All The Days, with their new album to follow in October. They also play the All Together Now festival next weekend. We asked Peter Devlin the BIG questions . . .
All The Days, which is released on Blue Élan Records, is the Dublin band's first full-length project in almost a decade since their acclaimed album, Waves, and brings together the classic line-up of brothers Colin (vocals, guitar, piano) and Peter Devlin (bass), drummer Guy Rickarby and guitarist Mark Murphy, with producer Rob Kirwan (Hozier, PJ Harvey, Depeche Mode) at the helm.

Speaking about the new single, Colin says, "It’s an emotional and uplifting song that deals with time passing, with accepting and letting go.
"It deals with resilience and holding on to the magic and the light. And of course, there are conversations with angels and the big questions.
"It also has superb production by Rob Kirwan which hits me every time. It’s one of the strongest songs The Devlins have ever recorded and we hope that as many people as possible get to hear it."

The Devlins released their debut album Drift in 1993, and the title track of their 1997 follow-up album, Waiting, appeared on the Six Feet Under soundtrack.
Another hit, World Outside, was featured in The Sopranos and the 2004 movie Closer. Their song, Crossing The River, also appeared on the multi-platinum-selling Batman Forever soundtrack.
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I am the Mac Tonight character in the 1988 McDonalds tv ad. I sneaked past security at the BBC studios to be in the audience for a recording of Top Of The Pops. I qualified for the Nagano Winter Olympics, Snowboarding Giant Slalom event in 1998.
How would you describe your music?
I usually quote a review by an online music mag, Melodic.net, which gives a few reference points that I think are more useful than descriptive words like cinematic or ethereal. The reviewer said it’s like Daniel Lanois got together for a drink with Talk Talk and The Blue Nile - all big influences on our music, so that’s a huge compliment.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Apart from the above, bands like The Undertones, The Jam and The Who were responsible for me picking up the bass and forming a band.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
The Specials, supported by The Beat, in The Stardust, Dublin, January 1981 (I was 13).
What was the first record you ever bought?
New Boots and Panties by Ian Dury.
What’s your favourite song right now?
SLEEPY by Carsten2X.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"With all the will in the world, Diving for dear life, When we could be diving for pearls" - Shipbuilding by Elvis Costello.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Þú ert jörðin from Ólafur Arnalds.
Where can people find your music/more information?
Our website.
