Charles Cyphers, the American character actor best known for his performances in John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, The Fog, and Escape from New York, has died. He was 85.

His death was confirmed by his manager, Chris Roe.

In a statement shared with Variety, Roe said: "Charles was a lovable and sensitive man.

"He always had the best stories, and you got a full performance while he told you.

"He was a close friend and client on [sic] many years who will be dearly missed."

Cyphers first starred as Sheriff Brackett in Halloween in 1978, reprising the role in 1981's Halloween II, and 2021's Halloween Kills.

The New York State-born actor's many TV credits included the series Starsky and Hutch, The Six Million Dollar Man, Wonder Woman, Charlie's Angels, Hill Street Blues, ER, and Seinfeld.
