US actress Blake Lively arrived at the premiere of her upcoming film It Ends With Us wearing a dress in homage to "ultimate queen" Britney Spears.

Lively appeared on the pink carpet at the AMC Lincoln Square Theatre in a drizzling New York City, reviving Spears’ 2002 vintage Versace butterfly dress adorned with sequin flowers.

"The ultimate queen who made us all want to sparkle and write and share our stories," Lively said on her Instagram story, sharing a picture of Spears in the dress.

"Britney, us millennials all have a story of a moment, or of years that you made us want to shine and inspire awe, with strength, and joy and immensely hard work.

"Thank you for your example and your contribution to women telling their stories. So excited about your biopic and all you have to come."

It comes after it was reported Spears’ 2023 hit memoir The Woman In Me is set to be adapted for the big screen.

Lively appeared at the New York premiere alongside her It Ends With Us co-stars Justin Baldoni and Brandon Sklenar.

Based on the best-selling novel by Colleen Hoover, the film tells the story of Lily Bloom (Lively) as she falls in love with Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni) before reconnecting with her first love Atlas Corrigan (Sklenar).

The premiere also saw a Deadpool & Wolverine reunion for stars Ryan Reynolds – who is married to Lively – and Hugh Jackman.

Lively and Reynolds, who married in 2012, previously made a joint appearance on the red carpet for the world premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine in New York in July.

During an interview with Extra TV, Lively appeared concerned that her husband was "getting soaking wet in the rain" as the pink carpet appeared to flood with excess water.

Speaking about the Spears dress, she added: "This dress meant so much to me because of what she meant to me – she was just somebody who represented love and beauty and youth and hard work and determination and strength and she was in touch with her sexuality and her delicacy and she just sort of represented it all.

"Her telling her own story the way she did and the way she is about to with her biopic…And so when this dress was available I was like yes, I need it and I’ve had it for almost a year now and I’ve been saving it for this."
