Irish fan on Swift's Vienna shows: 'To find the gigs had been cancelled for the worst reason is gutting'

"I'm actually gutted. My boyfriend and I travelled over yesterday morning and this has been something we were looking forward to for a year now," she said.

"Our flight was full of fans, and the person who checked us into the hotel joked that everyone staying there was Swifties.

"It was like in Ireland where you could feel a buzz about the place from the excitement building, and now to find out so close to the gigs happening that it’s been cancelled for the worst reason is gutting," Ms Spencer added.

The self-confessed Swiftie said she had not left her hotel since the news broke and that it felt "very sombre" during breakfast on Thursday morning.

"We’ve not gone outside the hotel yet today, so I don’t know the vibe outside of here, but in the reception area where the breakfast was this morning was very sombre.

"I actually posted on Instagram yesterday joking about a terrible restaurant experience I had in Vienna and a friend replied a few hours later with 'I’m so sorry,' and I was like 'Oh it’s fine, it was funny' and then she told me she wasn’t talking about the restaurant, and sent me the post from Taylor Nation showing the gigs were cancelled."

Ms Spencer, who is a presenter on SPIN 1038, said she's previously seen Swift on her Speak Now and Reputation tours, and was looking forward to taking everything in at the Vienna gig.

"It was only about ten minutes after the announcement that I got that message and next of all, all my Swiftie friends were texting me about it," she said.

"This is the second last city she's playing in Europe so I’ve seen them all go to Paris, London, Warsaw to see her, and they knew themselves how much it means to go to see her.

"I saw her for her Speak Now and Reputation tours, and we were fortunate to get tickets for Dublin. We got soaked in Dublin (my tan even ran onto my t-shirt) so we were looking forward to going all out, getting dressed up and taking a few nice pics at this one.

"I’d bought a dress specifically for it and everything. And honestly, I was so overwhelmed by the first gig that I felt like I didn’t fully take it in and almost like I blacked out in parts, so I was really just hoping this time I would be able to take it all in!"

Swift's three concerts in Vienna were expected to draw 195,000 people

Ms Spencer said she chose to travel to Vienna to see Swift "because it was the place we got access to the sale".

"I registered for cities all over Europe and got waitlisted for most. It wasn't a choice of Vienna, it was just we would go wherever we could get tickets for," she said.

She added: "We were meant to go to the merch stand today but I'm not keen to anymore. The plan for now is to try and make the most of being here, so the money spent on the trip isn’t a complete waste."

Swift's three concerts in Vienna were expected to draw 195,000 people.

The shows were to be part of the record-breaking Eras Tour by the American singer-songwriter which is set to conclude on 8 December 2024, in Vancouver, Canada.

UK policing minister Diana Johnson said Scotland Yard will look at "all the intelligence" ahead of Swift returning to the UK for a series of concerts later this month.

Swift has not yet commented on the cancellations on her official Instagram account which has 283 million followers.
