This weekend's Boyne Valley International Film Festival will host the Irish premiere of Wildcat, director Ethan Hawke's acclaimed biopic of the American author Flannery O'Connor, which stars Hawke's daughter Maya Hawke in the lead role.
The premiere marks the Boyne Valley International Film Festival's inaugural Saturday night gala screening and will take place in Drogheda's Droichead Arts Centre.
The festival runs from 9-11 August and features "an extended programme of short film screenings from the Boyne Valley, Ireland, and beyond, alongside workshops and events".

Among this year's highlights are a comedy writing workshop with Jonathan Hughes (The US Office); a documentary workshop with Alex Fegan (The Irish Pub) and Laura O'Shea (Wednesday's Child); a TV panel discussion with directors Rob and Ronan Burke (Harry Wild), Audrey O'Reilly and Oonagh Kearney (Obituary); and a discussion on mental health in the film industry with actor Baz Black (Kin/Dublin Crust) among the panellists.
The Filmmaker in Focus at this year's festival is Alba Fernandez, and the closing film will be The Island by Fionnuala Gygax - winner of the Boyne Valley International Film Festival 2023 Short Film Bursary.
