Behind the music - Flexx Carter

admin admin | 08-11 16:15

Waterford rapper Flexx Carter has released his new single, Datenight. We asked him the BIG questions . . .

Datenight is the follow-up to his single Take Care and his first project, The Freedom Tapes, which included the tracks When I See The Water, Freedom, The Future Never Happened, Intentions, and Who's Flexx.

The track features vocals from Chris Kabs, who also produced the song, and speaking about Datenight, Flexx says, "I want to inspire people through my music to do whatever it is that they want to do with their lives, and ignore anybody that says they can't, whilst also telling my own stories.

"There's people out there that only have some earphones and a Spotify account. I want to be the dude they listen to so they know there's more to life, and they’re not alone."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I'm a hip-hop artist. Deep down I'm just a nerd who likes making things rhyme. I'm gonna change the world.

How would you describe your music?

My music is freedom in your ears, it's serotonin. I try to give listeners inspiration through my own life experiences whilst also making them laugh and at times cry. I want people to listen to my music and be like, "aghh me too" yno. They'll never feel alone listening to me.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I've got so many, but to name just a few I'd go with Mac Miller, Tyler, the Creator, Biggie, 2pac, Eminem and Kanye. Damn that's a lot, there's way more but mainly those people right there.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

I went to an open mic gig in Waterford and just fell in love with the scene immediately, I knew it's what I wanted to do.

What was the first record you ever bought?

I bought The Slim Shady LP on vinyl a few years back, still spin it regularly.

What’s your favourite song right now?

I'd have to say I'm stuck between Datenight by Flexx Carter Ft. Chris Kabs and Take Care by Flexx Carter Ft. Ellen Quilty. I'm bad a making up my mind

Favourite lyric of all time?

"A coward dies a thousand times, a soldier dies but once" - Tupac Shakur.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I like that Kojaque record Larry Bird. I'd be cool listening that forever, really dope track

Where can people find your music/more information?

You can find me on all streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple music Amazon and YouTube, it's simply just Flexx Carter. Instagram and Spotify, too.
