Originally from London, Kawaii Hoe fuses pop, dance pop, electro pop, and hyperpop, with AI-driven production.

"Reality explores the contrast between fantastical dreams of wealth and the everyday world," they say. "It captures both the allure of imagining a life of luxury and the grounding pull of actual circumstances, inviting listeners to reflect on their own aspirations and realities."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I'm excited to announce that my debut album, The Reality, has been released. It's a culmination of my journey in music so far, blending pop, hyperpop, and electro sounds. The album explores themes of fantasy and reality, and I can't wait to share it with the world.

How would you describe your music?

My music is a vibrant fusion of pop, hyperpop, and electro, infused with the innovative potential of AI. It's a sound that pushes boundaries and explores new sonic territories. In my tracks, you'll find bright, catchy melodies layered with edgy, boundary-pushing production.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I draw inspiration from artists like Charli XCX, Jolin Tsai, and Sam Smith, blending their influences with my own unique vision. The Reality delves into themes of fantasy versus reality, inviting listeners to dance on the edge between lavish daydreams and everyday life. At its core, my music is about self-expression and challenging conventions. It's for those who aren't afraid to embrace the unexpected, who find joy in both the extravagant and the ordinary. Whether it's a high-energy bop or a more introspective tune, each track is crafted to take you on a journey - one that's both sonically exciting and emotionally resonant. I see my use of AI in music creation as part of pop's evolution, much like how auto-tune was once controversial but is now a staple. It's about expanding what's possible in music, creating sounds that are fresh, surprising, and authentically me.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

The Prismatic World Tour by Katy Perry. It was a life-changing experience! Seeing Katy Perry live was like watching my teenage dreams come to life on stage. The energy, the spectacle, the music - it all came together in this incredible, technicolour explosion. I remember being completely mesmerised by her performance and thinking, This is what I want to do. It wasn't just a concert; it was a pivotal moment that solidified my desire to create music that could move and inspire people the way Katy's music moved and inspired me. Looking back, I can see how that night influenced my journey towards becoming Kawaii Hoe.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Teenage Dream by Katy Perry. It seems I've been a Katycat from the very beginning! This album wasn't just my first record purchase; it was my introduction to the world of pop music that would eventually shape my own artistic vision. Teenage Dream is a masterclass in pop perfection - from the catchy hooks to the vibrant production. I must have played it on repeat for months, dissecting every song, every lyric. Looking back, I can see how this album planted the seeds for my love of bright, bold pop music with an edge. It's funny to think that my first gig and first album purchase were both Katy Perry - I guess you could say she's been a consistent thread in my musical tapestry. Her influence on my work as Kawaii Hoe is undeniable, even as I've developed my own unique style with AI and hyperpop elements.

What's your favourite song right now?

Right now, my favourite song is the titled track from my debut album, Reality. It's special to me because it blends the melodies I adored and vibrant synths with lyrics that explore the contrast between fancy dreams and reality. The song resonates deeply with listeners, reflecting both escapism and honesty. Seeing the positive response from fans makes it even more meaningful to me.

Favourite lyric of all time?

My favourite lyric is from Katy Perry's Love Me: "Love me, No more second-guessing. No, there’s no more questioning, I’ll be the one defining Who I’m gonna be". These lines resonate deeply with me because they speak to self-empowerment and embracing one's true identity. It's a powerful reminder to define myself on my own terms.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

EGO-HOLIC by Starr Chen featuring Jolin Tsai. The song has an irresistible energy and the tropical beat that always lifts my spirits. Jolin Tsai's dynamic vocals combined with the vibrant production from the top Taiwanese producer make it a track that never gets old. The lyrics which explore themes of self-confidence and embracing one's true self, resonate deeply with me and provide endless inspiration.
