Kneecap, Saoirse Ronan tipped for Oscar nominations

The acclaimed Irish-language music biopic Kneecap and Saoirse Ronan have been tipped for Oscar nominations by the US entertainment trade publication Variety.

In its early predictions for the 2025 Academy Awards, Variety puts Kneecap among the five nominees in the Best International Feature category.

The Rich Peppiatt-directed film, which stars the Belfast rap trio as themselves, was recently chosen as Ireland's submission for the category and is currently in cinemas.

Saoirse Ronan is tipped for another Best Actress nomination for her performance in the upcoming addiction recovery drama The Outrun.

Directed by Nora Fingscheidt and based on the best-selling Amy Liptrot memoir of the same name, The Outrun opens in cinemas on Friday 27 September.

Ronan was previously nominated for her performances in Atonement (Best Supporting Actress), Brooklyn (Best Actress), Lady Bird (Best Actress), and Little Women (Best Actress).

The Oscars take place in Los Angeles on Sunday 2 March 2025

The shortlist for the Best International Feature Film Oscar will be announced on Tuesday 17 December. The final five nominees will be revealed when the full list of Oscar nominations is announced on Friday 17 January 2025.
