The Secret Life of Midges, 7.00pm, BBC Two

As one of the few flies in the British Isles that feeds on human blood, Scottish midges can cause havoc for anyone who has to live and work among them.

Here, entomologist James Logan of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine embarks on a journey around some of the more infested places.

He investigates why some people are more attractive to the bloodsucking flies than others, examining how best to cope with them and learning whether some people might have their own natural midge repellent.

After he fell victim to an unprovoked attack, he was left with catastrophic brain injuries and needing to learn to walk again.

Corridors of Power: Should America Police the World, 10.00pm, BBC Four

This episode examines how Muslim separatists in the Kosovo region rekindled old conflicts that led US President Clinton's (below) White House to consider Serbian President Milosevic's regime a threat to their own civilians.

Plus, a look at how the Russian President Boris Yeltsin opposed Western intervention against their old allies in the Balkans, as well as when he was forced to resign, leaving a young Vladimir Putin to take his place.
