Cork singer-songwriter Stephanie Rainey's future on America's Got Talent remains in the balance as she must wait until tonight's results show to see if she's going to make the contest's semi-final stage.

She performed judges on Tuesday's live quarter-final show on NBC Television in the US, but despite an impressive performance, she failed to get the golden buzzer that would have put her straight into the semi-finals.

For the fourth quarterfinals, eleven acts competed for the grand prize.

Stephanie Rainey

They were Stephanie Rainey, Brent Street, Erica Rhodes, Illya & Anastasia Strakhov, Jonathan Burns, L6, Oscar Stembridge, Pranysqa Mishra, Sebastián and Sonia, Solange Kardinaly and Tonikaku.

This time around, Stephenie performed another of her own compositions, a song called Woman, and expressed her feelings and her mother's struggle with cancer. This heartfelt performance made everyone emotional.

Judge Sophia Vergara said Stephanie's presence on stage felt "so personal." Howie mentioned that the contestant's songs were "powerful" but there was something missing on stage.

Simon Cowell

Simon Cowell said that the production left out minor details but the overall singing was impressive enough to get her votes.

It was Simon Cowell who pushed the Golden Buzzer during the show to send an act straight into the semi-finals.

The British judge and producer pressed the button for aerialists Sebastian and Sonia after being incredibly moved by the fact that 30-year-old Sonia fractured her arm during rehearsals, so 24-year-old Sebastian ended up performing the routine all by himself.

"That is the definition of courage. You don't give up," Simon said on the stage after the emotional confetti shower.
