Cork singer-songwriter Stephanie Rainey has missed out on a semi-final spot on America's Got Talent.

Rainey performed her original song, Woman, for the judges on Tuesday's live quarter-final show on NBC Television in the US, but despite an impressive performance, she failed to get the golden buzzer that would have put her straight into the final.

On Wednesday night's results show, it was revealed that Rainey would not progress to the semi-finals.

Glanmire native Rainey, and friend Sarah Power who accompanied her on piano, were chosen out of thousands of acts who applied to be on the show to perform in front of a live audience and the judges.

Having received four "Yes" votes from Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandel, Rainey and Power were then chosen as one of the top 44 acts who would progress to the quarter-finals.

Stephanie Rainey: "We're leaving this with our heads held extremely high"

Taking to social media after Wednesday's results show Rainey said: "Nerves are going to come into it when the cameras are rolling and you are very hyper-aware that you are now singing to 5 million people plus four of the biggest celebrities in the world - it gets a little tense you know.

"In terms of the song that was the only song that we were ever going to do and we stand over it. I wrote that song with this absolute legend of a human being that I have standing next to me when my mom was really really sick and it was a celebration of our mothers and all of the strong women that we have been lucky enough to be surrounded by.

"We're leaving this with our heads held extremely high I have to say massive thank you to this person here because without her I would have given up so long ago."

Rainey's debut EP, The Highs And Lows Of It All, will be released on 14 November.
