London-based Dutch artist Tessa Rose Jackson has released her new single, Stick In The Mud. We asked her the BIG questions . . .
The song, a mix of Hollywood glamour and indie grunge, is the latest taste from her forthcoming EP, A Mirror Sometimes, which is released on 17 January 17th, 2025.

"How often do you get to record a classic Hollywood string ensemble for an indie song? Not often, I'll tell you!" Tessa Rose says. "The song has an almost tongue-in-cheek melodrama to it, so we thought: let’s push it all the way.
"We combined two worlds that, in our minds, epitomise the word drama: the sweeping romantic strings of old Hollywood movies with the grungy chug of Elliott Smith band tracks."
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I am a musician, songwriter and producer. My favourite thing is sculpting the sound of my songs to spark the listener's imagination. I am a huge film lover and my favourite movie of all time is Alien. Besides releasing my own music, I am also a composer for film and TV and love working on any project that's a little weird, a little wonderful!

How would you describe your music?
Though I would say each of my albums is quite different in style, words that tend to recur each time I describe my songs are dreamy, intimate, cinematic and eclectic.
Who are your musical inspirations?
My biggest musical inspiration is Feist. She encompasses so much of what I aspire to be and do just in the way she approaches music-making. But I also draw a lot of inspiration from Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, Adrienne Lenker, Laura Marling, Zero 7 and Air. Among mány others.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
I think, in all honesty, the first gig I ever went to was my sister's high school buddy's dodgy punk rock band. But I'm not sure that counts. The first concert I remember truly impacting me was Feist playing Carré, Amsterdam with her Metals tour. It blew me away.
What was the first record you ever bought?
The first CDs I ever bought were Laundry Service by Shakira and Help! by the Beatles. On the same day. The first record I ever bought was Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys.
What’s your favourite song right now?
My favourite song right now is Thirty by The Weather Station. I just can't stop listening to it.
Favourite lyric of all time?
My favourite lyric of all time will change every day depending on my mood! But right now, it is Joni Mitchell's "I could drink a case of you, oh darling and I would still be on my feet. I would still be on my feet."
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could only ever listen to one song again it might just be a simple on from my childhood. In My Life by the Beatles. I'm a nostalgic gal at heart.
Where can people find your music/more information?
You can find my music under my full name "Tessa Rose Jackson" on Spotify, YouTube and twitter. On Instagram, my handle is @someonespictures because that used to be my band name and it was too confusing to change it! I also have a website. Do come say hi!
