Irish actress Eva Birthistle makes 'labour of love' directorial debut

The trailer for Irish actress Eva Birthistle's feature film directorial debut Kathleen is Here has been released.

The Bad Sisters star has written and directed the drama that features an all-star Irish cast including Hazel Doupe, Clare Dunne and Peter Coonan.

The film follows Kathleen (Hazel Doupe), an 18-year-old who returns to her hometown to take ownership of her deceased mother's house after coming out of foster care.

Although she manages to land a job and make a friend, the emptiness of her life begins to grate. Alone and desperate for a mother figure, she sets out on a destructive path to find one.

Birthistle said of the project: "Kathleen is Here has been a labour of love for the last 10 years.

"Thanks to my amazing cast & crew seeing it come to life is genuinely a dream come true.

"All I wanted was for an audience to be able to watch it on a big screen so I'm beyond thrilled it will have its cinematic release in October."

The film, which also stars Aaron Monaghan and Liadán Dunlea, was produced by Claire McCaughley for Treasure Entertainment with backing from Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland.

Kathleen is Here will be released in Irish cinemas on 18 October.
