JK Rowling has announced an open casting call for the roles of Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley in the upcoming HBO series adaption of Harry Potter.
It's been 23 years since Harry Potter first appeared on the big screen, bringing to life the much-loved characters from Rowling's books.
Now HBO, the studio behind huge hit shows like Game of Thrones, Succession and The Sopranos, is looking for the next young stars to play Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.
Rowling shared the details on X, which specify that they are "currently only able to consider children who are aged 9 - 11 in April 2025 and a resident of the UK or Ireland".
Those interested in applying are asked to send two videos to Cast It Talent. Applications must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian. The deadline for the submissions is on 31 October 2024. Full details of what is required as part of the application are available on the Cast It Talent website.
This new Harry Potter series will "dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years," said Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO & Max Content about the project at a streaming event in April 2023.
Bloys also assured fans it would be "a faithful adaptation".
According to Variety, the series is expected to be released in 2026 and will see Francesca Gardiner who produced Succession and Killing Eve on board as showrunner and executive producer.
