Late Irish musicians Sinéad O'Connor, Shane MacGowan, Séamus Begley and Christy Dignam will all be celebrated on a new collection of four special stamps.

An Post has unveiled the black and white stamps to honour the musicians, all of whom died in 2023.

Entitled 'Iconic Irish Voices’, the four-stamp set marks the musicians’ passing and their unique contributions to Irish cultural life and music.

"Shane was a passionate Irish man with a huge love for Ireland and its history and culture and he was very interested in the stamps and often spoke about how much he loved them."

The stamp set includes two ‘N’ national rate stamps showing portrait photographs of Begley and Dignam, together with images of MacGowan and O’Connor on two ‘W’ stamps for posting worldwide.

They will be available to purchase from selected post offices across the country from tomorrow as well as online.

The special stamps honour Christy Dignam, Sinéad O'Connor, Séamus Begley and Shane MacGowan

Each stamp, designed by Shaughn McGrath, is available in a sheet of four, costing €5.60, as well as on a limited edition first-day cover envelope.

Speaking at the launch of the collection at the An Post headquarters in Dublin, Dignam’s daughter Ciara said: "Our family are deeply touched to have my dad honoured in such a beautiful way by An Post.

"Knowing his humour, to be on a stamp is definitely something he would giggle about, it’s like he’s Irish royalty."

Also speaking about the launch, Begley's family said: "This stamp is a wonderful recognition of the impact that Séamus had on people and we as a family are very proud and very grateful to An Post for this honour."

Also on hand to launch the stamps was Victoria Mary Clarke, wife of MacGowan, and she said: "Shane would be exceptionally proud and delighted to be honoured with a stamp from An Post.

"He was a passionate Irish man with a huge love for Ireland and its history and culture and he was very interested in the stamps and often spoke about how much he loved them."
