Arguably the biggest date on the fashion calendar, the Met Gala is an annual fashion extravaganza that sees the world's most famous faces dare to display their most extravagant looks under the watchful eye of Vogue editor and event chair, Anna Wintour.
From Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination to Camp: Notes On Fashion, the star-studded fundraiser sees actors, singers, musicians and models work the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, providing show-stopping looks as well as raising funds for The Costume Institute.
When is the Met Gala?
The Met Gala famously takes place on the first Monday in May. This year, that day falls on Monday, May 6, 2024.
What is the 2024 exhibition?
The spring 2024 exhibit will be entitled Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion and will see approximately 250 items pulled from the Institute's permanent collection, including some that have been rarely seen in public before.
The exhibition promises to combine design from across the ages, from a 17th-century English Elizabethan-era bodice to boundary breaking 21st century designs by Alexander McQueen, with modern technology to present them in immersive ways.
Speaking to Vogue, Max Hollein, The Met's Marina Kellen French Director and CEO, said: "This innovative show will push the boundaries of our imagination and invite us to experience many facets of a work, to learn more about its history, and, ultimately, to gain a deeper appreciation of its beauty."
What is the 2024 dress code?
As per tradition, the event's theme is made to match the exhibition taking place at the museum, with this year's dress code being: The Garden of Time.
The exhibit will feature approximately 250 rare items drawn from the Costume Institute's permanent collection. Spanning over 400 years of fashion history, the pieces will include designs by Schiaparelli, Dior, Givenchy, and more.
The true thrill of the evening will be to see how the stars interpret this gorgeous theme.
Who will attend the 2024 Met Gala?
According to Vogue, the co-chairs hosting the 2024 Met Gala are Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez and Anna Wintour. The 2024 honorary co-chairs are TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and Derry man Jonathan Anderson, designer and creative director of Loewe.
The guest list is still under speculation, but it is rumoured that Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy and Saltburn star Barry Keoghan will be walking the steps of the Met, alongside regular attendees like Rihanna, Blake Lively, and Kim Kardashian.
