With the evocative theme The Garden of Time, the Met Gala 2024 has provided the A-list guest list ample opportunity to go all out, and a host of Irish stars stepped out on Met Gala steps, flying the flag for Irish design.
Coordinated with the Costume Institute's exhibition Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, the gala theme is inspired by the 250 items that have been pulled from the Institute's permanent collection for this year's exhibit, including some that have been rarely seen in public before.
The gala has become one of the most anticipated events on the fashion calendar, and was established in 1948 as a means to fundraise for the Institute.
Andrew Scott brought 1950's bad boy vibes to the Met Gala, attending with Donatella Versace and Jude Law and wearing a sleeveless suit.
He paired a black sleeveless suit jacket accented with gold insect hardwear, with wide-legged trousers and a simple black top.
Jamie Dornan leaned into playfulness with his Met Gala look, wearing a spin on a suit. He wore a longline suit jacket, white shirt, pale blue waistcoat and a deep red tie, all of which were made from a textured boucle material.
Contrasting this were his grey trousers, which had a wide and tapered silhouette and a fine white stripe.
Honorary Princess of Ireland Ayo Edebiri repped Irish design, wearing a colourful gown by Loewe, which is headed up by Derry-born designer Jonathan Anderson - who also serves as an honorary chair at this year's gala.
Her gown featured a white halter-neck neckline, with a floral motif of 3D handstitched flowers that gradually bloomed into colour. It featured a dramatic plunging back that perfectly contrasted the feminine look of the dress. She added some sparkle with jewellery from Boucheron, including a knockout pale blue cocktail ring and matching drop earrings.
For those not in the know, the actress made headlines last year when she spoke with Letterboxd at SXSW, joking about the months she spent in Ireland preparing to play the role of Jenny the Donkey in The Banshees of Inisherin - she even adopted a comedic Irish accent for the bit.
We've held on to the bit ever since.
Anderson himself flew the flag for Ireland, wearing not just sparkling vivid green shoes with his classic black suit, but also a shimmering gold shamrock pin on his shoulder.
Glamour editor-in-chief and Cork native Barry stepped out wearing a dazzling gown by The Atelier, which featured a form fitting corset bodice embellished with silver detailing, that flared out in a peplum hem over her skirt. The skirt, meanwhile, was made of layers of tulle and accented with floral appliques.
She accessorised with shoes by Jimmy Choo, a clutch bag by Judith Leiber and stunning drop earrings by Margot McKinney. She added a final touch of romance with a floral headpiece.
Alison Oliver also walked the Met Gala steps, wearing a loose-fitting sequinned suit, featuring an oversized blazer with a train backed with repurposed fabric, and slim trousers with built-in pointed toed boots.
