The Black Ferns Sevens team will be without the experience of Shiray Kaka for the Paris Olympics as she announced yesterday that she has ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
The injury was sustained during the Black Ferns Sevens 24-5 win against Great Britain at the Singapore Sevens tournament last weekend.
In an emotional video posted on social media, Kaka couldn't hold back tears as she shared the news of her injury.
In the video, she thanked fans for sending her messages after she left the field in visible discomfort and wished luck to all the Black Ferns that would be travelling to play in Paris.
In her caption Kaka wrote: "Really thought it was finally my time to show the world what I could do. After all the trainings, all the set backs, all the missed family events ... the Olympics was going to make it all worth it. But it just wasn't meant to be."
The 29-year-old has had a string of misfortune as it is her third knee injury in her career. However, it's the first to happen to her right knee.
