Motorists have been asked to clean their cars before Warrant of Fitness checks after an inspector was greeted to a vehicle filled to the brim with rubbish.
"Clean your car before you take it to get a warrant of fitness check," Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency said today on social media.
"Warrant of fitness inspections help keep you and other people on the road safe — but to do that inspectors need to be able to carry out the full inspection.
"If there’s anything obstructing an inspector’s ability to do their job they’ll refuse to do a WoF check on your vehicle."
It was accompanied by a photograph of a car with its driver's seat and floor covered with discarded coffee cups, used napkins, tobacco papers, and a Steam gift card.
The transport agency said the rubbish "would get in the way of the inspector when they’re checking the seats, seatbelts, and their anchor points are secure".

"We don't expect inspectors to move rubbish out of their way in order to do their job — that's why people need to clean their vehicle before taking their vehicle in for an inspection."
It comes as NZTA also recently warned against motorists replacing pedals with wooden blocks, and covering vehicles in artificial grass.
