A woman in her sixties has been airlifted to hospital this morning after sustaining serious injuries in a dog attack on the Coromandel Peninsula.
An Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew were called to the scene in Tairua at around 8am this morning.
Attending air crew officer Simon Thorpe said: “It was an attack by a pack of dogs, apparently, four in total.”
The injured woman was airlifted to Waikato Hospital in a "serious condition".
Around 27,000 dog-related injuries were reported in New Zealand each year, costing $15.8 million in the year to June 30, 2022, according to figures from ACC.
