Paul Mescal: "I'm a big advocate for men wearing shorter shorts"

Back in 2020, following the global success of Normal People, Paul Mescal introduced his white GAA shorts to the world of high fashion.

Posing for GQ, the Maynooth man wore a £10,000 Hermès pullover, which he paired with "vintage shorts by Kildare GAA".

Since then, Mescal has been snapped by paparazzi wearing his beloved O'Neill's while running around London, undoubtedly making above-the-knee shorts a staple for men's fashion.

Now, it seems that he has brought the trend to Milan Fashion Week by wearing a pair of extra short boxer shorts at the spring/summer 2025 Gucci show.

Styled by the talented Felicity Kay, he paired the look with an unbuttoned shirt, a pair of Horsebit loafers, and some Cartier jewellery.

"I'm a fan of the short inseam," he told GQ while attending the event. "From my eye, it's do with proportion; a shorter short with maybe a longer top. I'm a big advocate for men wearing shorter shorts."

According to Vogue, Gucci's creative director Sabato de Sarno is on the same page as Mescal; his debut spring/summer 2024 women's collection featured an incredible 19 pairs of hot pants, and zero trousers.

The brand’s 2025 offering features a selection of thigh-high pieces, ranging from leather boxer shorts to hot-pink swimmers.
