Kiwi rower Sophie Egnot-Johnson has won the single sculls at the prestigious Henley Women’s Regatta.

The 23-year-old, who represented the Waikato Rowing Club, pulled away from her opponent, Sarah McKay, in the second half of the race on the River Thames.

Egnot-Johnson took home the George Innes Cup with a winning time of 5:54:09.

The event is the premier regatta for women in the United Kingdom with around 2000 entrants from around the world.

She's now eyeing up another strong result at next month’s World University Games in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.
