Pride 2024: Things to do in Dublin this weekend

As if Dublin wasn't already set for a spectacular weekend with Taylor Swift bringing her Eras Tour to the Aviva Stadium and Shania Twain playing at Malahide Castle on Friday 28 June, this weekend will also see the Pride Parade light up the city in Technicolour, bringing with it a host of fabulous events.

This year's celebrations are particularly significant, not only because it marks the 50th anniversary of the first Gay Pride demonstration in Dublin, but also as reported incidents of harrassment and violence against LGBTQI+ people remains high.

Here, we've rounded up just some of the top events taking place this weekend, from glam drag brunches and club nights, to sober events and walking tours.

Big Gay Quiz, The Bernard Shaw

Very much a case of "exactly what it says on the tin", this Pride version of The Bernard Shaw's weekly quiz night promises to put you in the mood for Pride weekend. The games will be hosted back to back on the ground floor with the Shaw's fine quizmaster hosting from the stage.

The Secret History of Gay Dublin Tour, The Oscar Wilde Memorial

The Secret History of Gay Dublin Tour is all about seeing the city in a new light. Some of the most central figures in Dublin's political and cultural history were gay: some were heroes, others were villains. This tour is about their stories and the story of a rebellious and scandalous city.

Same sex desire has always been a part of our history and for many years its been deliberately ignored. This tour aims to show you some of the most beautiful and interesting places in the city and uncover their secret queer history.

Tickets for Friday's 6pm tour cost €15.99 and 25% of all ticket sales donated to our pride charity partner Outhouse.

Pre-Pride Party, Grand Social

Don't want to wait until Saturday for the parade to kick off? Get your dancing shoes warmed up at this pre-Pride event where the Grand Social team will be blaring the best party anthems to get you in the mood for the busy weekend.

Entry is free and the event runs from 10:30pm until late.

Pride Drink & Draw, Grá Bar

Held in Smithfield's Grá Bar, this event is hosted by Alternative Dublin and promises a fun and inclusive space for guests. At this arty party you can create your own masterpiece while having a drink or two.

No painting experience is required and the event is open to true beginners, with plenty of instructors on hand to help. Each ticket gets you a canvas to take home, all painting materials, a custom playlist and the chance to win prizes throughout the night.

Tickets cost €27.79 and 25% of ticket prices go to Outhouse.

Dublin Pride Parade

This year's Dublin Pride March is a special one as it celebrates its 50th anniversary this Saturday 29 June. The Sexual Liberation Movement organised the first Gay Pride demonstration in Dublin on 27 June and 50 years later the annual demonstration has arguably never been more important.

As the largest and most co-ordinated event of its kind in Ireland, the parade offers yet another opportunity for LGBTQ+ organisations working within our community along with ally groups to take a visible stand in support of LGBTQ+ people.

It kicks off at 12pm and can run from anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes as it progresses from O'Connell St to Merrion Square. Whether you're joining it alone or with a group of friends, there's no need to register and you can join the route at any stage.

Pride Breakfast, Outhouse

Before taking to the streets, why not make sure you have a hearty breakfast?

What better way to start your Pride and fuel your day than popping into Outhouse for our famous Pride breakfast that is now a staple event in the Pride calendar. Outhouse is delighted to be kicking off the day with a continental breakfast and some delicious drinks to quench your thirst before the Parade, from 10am-12pm.

Mother Pride Block Party, Collins Barracks

Every year the Mother Pride Block Party goes from strength to strength and this year is no different. COBRAH!, Sasha Velour and Blu Hydrangea are just some of the superstars performing at the annual bash, in the glorious surroundings of the National Museum, the Pride Block Party.

Taking place on Saturday 29 June at Collins Barracks, the jam-packed event will include Princess Superstar, Robin S, Billy Bunzari, Drag Aerobics and more, as well as Mother DJs, Celaviedmai, Sexy Tadhg and Haus of WIG on decks.

Sober Pride & Pizza party, Board

If you're looking for a sober venue that doesn't skimp on fun, pop down to Board, Dublin's board game bar and cafe. On Saturday at 3pm they have a Sober Pride & Pizza party, hosted by Babes without Beers, which just so happens to be followed by their Taylor Swift-themed Quiz & Bingo night so you can get both your Pride and Swiftie fix.

They've also created a special non-alcoholic Pride-themed cocktail for the weekend! Entry is free.

It's Raving Men Pride Brunch, Hyde Dublin

Performers Mimi Lane and Aidxn G are bringing you the ultimate Pride Brunch, an afternoon party that will get you in the party mood for the rest of the weekend. Jam packed with DJ’s, performers, hosts, games, prizes, bubbles and more on the day, this is an event not to be missed. You better work, catagory is Pride!

Craic Den Comedy Pride Special, Workmans

Craic Den Comedy Club brings the best Irish and international comedians to the stage for Pride Month, promising saucy and sexy comedy at its best. This year's line up features Becky Cheatle, Sinead Walsh, Marlon Simeon and a special guest!

Summer Night Pride Party, The Bernard Shaw

Lust Collective will be taking over The Bernard Shaw this Saturday for their Summer Night Pride Party, bringing savage beats and impeccable vibes to the pastel pub. Running from 10:30pm to 3am, DJs Charlois, Sean Daly and Sleepless Beauty will be on decks for the night.

Sunday 30 June

Rainbow Traffic Light Party, Wigwam

Whether you're looking for a friend, a lover or something in between, come down to Sam's Collective's Rainbow Traffic Light Party, taking place this Sunday. Choose one of the rainbow coloured stickers to reflect what describes your relationship status, or just come down for a boogie.

Dress code is true individuality so come dressed as your best and most authentic self. The collective also insist on a safe space policy and do not tolerate any unwanted touching or interaction, so you can feel secure shaking your stuff in peace.

Queer Dublin Walking Tour, starting at Crown Alley

Join Helena from Original Dublin on a journey through the streets of Dublin as they explore some of the incredible figures and events of Ireland's Queer History.From rebels and revolutionaries to civil rights agitators, Pride March pioneers and gender identity trailblazers; the Queer Dublin Tour is an exploratory celebration of Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community, and the rich history of their story.

Gauche Pride Market, Wigwam

Also in Wigwam, this afternoon market celebrates small businesses of all sorts, and takes place from 12-5pm showcasing the talent of the queer community in Dublin.

The team will have an amazing curated lineup of small businesses selling gender free clothing, arts, crafts, jewellery, homewares, along with tarot reading and our monthly book swap. No tickets required for entry.

Boyfriends by LemonSoap Productions, Project Arts Centre

This moving play by Donegal-born writer and actor Ultan Pringle is running from 26 June to 6 July, but we think that ending your Pride weekend with a bit of theatre is just what the mind and body needs. The two-man play stars Pringle and Emmanuel Okoye and charts the ups and downs and roundabouts of a modern situationship.

Pride Wind Down with Rhyzine, Love Tempo

Close out your Pride weekend with one last boogie at Love Tempo. After a weekend full of their own events, including an all-day Pride party from 1pm to closing, Rhyzine will be taking over the disco spot from 6pm on Sunday.
