The Audi A3 has always been a high end hatch with great design inside and out, with excellent technology all wrapped in a premium brand. Even though the market has shifted away from the city hatchback, there's still enough demand to keep Audi building this tried and true classic.

With the facelift comes subtle changes to the exterior including lighting elements, interior trim options and tech package. While the running gear remains largely unchanged, the powertrain remains the same with just slight tuning and software updates.

The price however is steep, what you get is a premium hatch powered by Audi's four-cylinder diesel and lots of great automotive design. The engine is refined, smooth, and well balanced with 148 bhp building from the 1.5-litre litre engine with seven-speed dual-clutch which is at its best cruising around 2,000rpm.

Audi Ireland lent the vehicle to journalists for the purpose of review.
