Lady Gaga wore an Irish design to the premiere of her latest film, Joker: Folie à Deux, at the Venice Film Festival this evening.

Gaga stars as Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix, who returns to his Oscar-winning role as the Joker, in the sequel directed by Todd Phillips, a role that fans have been eagerly waiting to see Gaga take on.

The A Star is Born actress and singer brought her usual drama and glamour to the red carpet, stepping out in an avant garde couture gown by Dior and a dazzling headpiece by Irish milliner, Philip Treacy.

Treacy is a hugely respected figure in global fashion, having designed hats for British royals such as Princess Beatrice and stars like Madonna and Sarah Jessica Parker.

He has also won British Accessory Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards five times. He was championed by tastemaker Isabella Blow, which brought him to the attention of luxury fashion houses such as Chanel and Givenchy.

Gaga has worn Treacy's designs for years, including most notably at the 2010 Brit Awards, in many of her music videos such as for You and I, Stupid Love and Telephone and on numerous tours.

For the premiere, Gaga wore a striking black couture ballgown by Dior, featuring a low V-neckline, a cinched corset waist and criss-crossed back, all in rich black velvet. It also included a dramatic structured skirt, made from a series of looped curls. She paired this with some towering platform lace-up boots.

However, for fashion fans, her choice of accessory is arguably more impressive. Gaga wore an eye-catching black lace headpiece by Treacy, featuing two sharp points at the top, contrasting champagne-hued panels and a large sweep of lace that covered Gaga's eyes - possibly hinting at the Batman origin of the Joker films.

The hat is an especially important one as it was created Treacy for his 2001 couture show, and is believed to be part of Daphne Guinness's personal collection, according to W Magazine. It was even once worn by Blow herself.

She finished her look with knock-out diamond jewellery, including a statement pendant.

Her co-star, Phoenix, attended with his sister Rain Phoenix, and looked dapper in a classic black tux with statement shades.
